County evolution

  • Apr 3, 1891 - Iron County was created from Marquette and Menominee Counties.
  • May 21, 1891 - Iron County lost some land to the creation of Dickinson County.
  • May 22, 1891 Iron County gained more land from Marquette County.
  • Oct 8, 1923 & Mar 1, 1926 Iron County's border was under dispute. Eventually, the US Spreme Court determined the line of the Wisconsin-Michigan border.
