May's Men's Clothing Store
Monroe Avenue and Lyon Street

In 1857, there were county offices located on the site.  A fire destroyed the old county building in 1860 and most of its records.  A lawyer, Andrew T. McReynolds erected a new building and the post office was located there until 1868 when a bookstore replaced it.

In 1883, the building was bought by Abraham May.  the name was later changed to A. May and Sons.  Still later, it became May's of Michigan.  In 1967 the May family sold the business.

In 1905, the forerunner of May's introduced clothing hung on a rack.  It was a revolutionary idea.
