    In the name of God Amen: I, Martin CARY of the Township of Medina, in the County of Lenawee and Stateof Michigan, of the age of forty- eight years, and being of sound mind and memory, do make, publish anddeclare, this my last will and testament, in manner following, that is to say:

    First, I give and bequeath and devise to my wife Achsah CARY all my real estate to wit: All thatpiece or parcel of land situate in the township of Medina, in the County of Lenawee and State of Michigan,it being the South part of the South East quarter of section thirty-four in Town Eight South of Range oneEast, containing one hundred and twenty acres of land, the same more or less, together with all thehereditament and appurtenances hereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining: To have and to hold. Thepremises above described to said Achsah CARY, her heirs and assigns forever.

    Second, I give and bequeath to my son Martin L. CARY the sum of twenty-five dollars; to my daughterHelen M. SEARGEANT [SARGENT] the sum of twenty five dollars; to my daughter Juliette Electa CARY the sum of twenty five dollars; and to my daughter Alice Adelle CARY the sum of twenty fivedollars; which said several legacies or sums of money, I direct and order to be paid to the saidrespective legates within one year from my decease.

    Third, and lastly, I give and bequeath all the rest, residue and remainder of my personal Estate, goods andchattels, of what nature or kind soever, to my said wife Achsah CARY, whom I hereby appoint my soleexecutrix of this my last will and testament; hereby revoking all former wills by me made.

    In witness whereby I have hereunto set my hand and seal this nineteenth day of September in the year of ourLord Eighteen hundred and fifty-seven. Signed in the presence of Palmer CARY and C. S. INGALS.Martin CARY

    "CHECKERED CAREER
    Wm. Carroll, the Horse Thief, to Spend 46 Years in Prison.
    That is if He Serves Out What He Has Received."

    Child Without Marriage

    Adrian Daily Times and Expositor, Tuesday, February 6, 1877:

    Bastardy: Ellen Donnely is a young girl and an inmate of the County House, and is about to become a mother. She charges young Oney Conley of this city with being the father of the child soon to be born. The young man denies the allegation, and waived an examination of the affair before justice Gregory yesterday afternoon. He is awaiting events in jail.
