Aaron C. Stone

Aaron C. Stone was born in October or November of 1799 in Conneticut. On October 19, 1826 he married Harriet Amanda Dickinson in Cornwall, Conneticut. In 1850 they moved to Dekalb Co., Indiana and in 1855 they moved to Newaygo Co., Michigan. Aaron died on March 4, 1864 and is buried in the Bull Cemetery, Denver Township, Newaygo Co., MI.

Harriet Amanda Dickinson was the daughter of Philip and Phebe (Hutchinson) Dickinson. Harriet was born July 16, 1806 in Conneticut and died June 23, 1900 in Newaygo Co. She was buried in the Bull Cemetery beside her husband.

They had eight children: Myron F. (the eldest) was born in 1827 in Conneticut. He married Lydia A. Tenant on August 16, 1863 in Dayton Township, Newaygo Co. He died July 1905 in Newaygo Co. and is buried in the Bull Cemetery with his father and mother. Myron and Emma's children were Elmer (b. 1866), Viola (b. 1869), Franklin (b. 1872), Edward (b. 1874) and Melvin (b. 1878).

Their second son, Andrew, was born in 1829 in Conneticut.  He served in the Civil War in Co. K, 13th Michigan Infantry. He married Sarah Ann (Barnhart) Wilder on September 24, 1865 in Dayton Township, Newaygo Co., MI. Andrew must have died before 1875. Sarah Ann 's first husband, William Wilder, died April 3, 1865 in the Civil War. He served in Co. A, 10th Michigan Cavalry. Her third husband was James Stoddard, whom she married in 1870 and divorced in 1889. Sarah died on September 21, 1925 in the Grand Rapids Veterans Facility and is buried in the cemetery there.

John, the next son, born in 1831 in Conneticut must have died young as he is not on any of the other census.

Henry C. was the fourth son born August 13, 1834 in Conneticut. He married in Dayton Township, Newaygo Co., Mi on June 23, 1859. His wife, Ellen, was the daughter of Eleazer and Sarah Smith. Henry and Ellen's children were Alma, Franklin, Freddie, Oscar, Stella, Ella and Burt.

Chester was the fifth son born on October 22, 1837 in Conneticut. He married Harriet Maynard on November 16, 1862 in Dayton Township, Newaygo Co., MI.  Chester served in the Civil War in Co. D., 8th Michigan Infantry. Their children were Mary, Alfred, Albert, Almondo, Myrta, Maud and Mabelle. Chester died on February 8, 1925 in Vermillion Co., Illinois. He is buried in the National Cemetery, Danville, Illinois.

The sixth child was a daughter, Phebe, born September 10, 1840. She married Horatio Barnhard on February 17, 1859 in Dayton Township, Newaygo Co., MI. They had one daughter named Ocelia who died young. Ocelia is buried in the Bull Cemetery.  Horatio was in the Civil War (Co. H, 3rd Michigan Infantry) and was killed in action on August 29, 1862 at Groveton, VA. Phebe then married William Anderson on December 24, 1864. Their children were Delos, Carrie, Addie, Willie B., Albert and Nellie.

Their seventh child was a daughter, Maryette. She married John Barnhard, brother of Horatio, on November 25, 1860 in Dayton Township, Newaygo Co., MI. This union was blessed with two chldren, Gilbert A. and Herbert A.  John was also in the Civil War in Co. H, 3rd Michigan Infantry where he served about three years. Maryette died December 24, 1884.

Their last child was a daughter, Hellen. Hellen married George Barnes on February 16, 1864 in Dayton Township, Newaygo Co.  George died in the Civil War a short time later. Hellen then married George's brother, Daniel L. Barnes September 24, 1865.  Daniel also served in the Civil War, Co H, 15th Michigan Infantry.
