John De Boer

John DeBoer died at his Washington Ave. home in the fourth ward last evening after a long illness with a chronic stomach ailment. The deceased had been sick for over a year, but had been working in the tannery up to about a month ago. He was born in the Isle of Marken, North Holland, the Netherlands on April 14, 1846, and came to America with his folks in 1872, settling in Grand Haven. With the exception of a few years spent at Chippewa and South Manistique, Upper Peninsula, he and his family have always lived in Grand Haven coming here from the north to give his children an education. The deceased was for years a popular employee of the Grand Haven Leather Co. He is survived by his wife and the following children: Charles, who teaches school in Muskegon Heights, Jennie, Bert, Johnny and Lawrence. An aged father, who is 83 years old also survives. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 from the Second Reformed church.
