Obituary - It becomes our duty this week to chronicle another death in this
vicinity. William A. Steen died at the home of his grandparents, Thursday
evening, August 7th. Death resulted from a complication of diseases from which
he had been many years a patient sufferer. The funeral services were held at the
5th district school house, and were conducted by Rev. DeYoung, of Blendon.
William A. Steen was born at Nuwedontregt, Holland, February 20, 1863. At the
age of 3 years he moved with his grandparents to this vicinity, where he had
lived ever since, with the exception of a year spent with his grandparents in
the Netherlands. He was a young man of more than ordinary intellect, warm
hearted and generous; one who made many friends and retained them.

William Steen, of this vicinity, who had been suffering severely for some months from a cancer on the face, died Wednesday morning. The funeral services were held at the place of residence at one o'clock, Thursday, and were conducted by Rev. DeYoung. Mr. Steen was about 80 years o age, and came to this vicinity from the Netherlands some 24 years ago, where he had since lived, an industrious and respected citizen.
