Lambertus Van Dyke's, Death From Blood Poisoning

Lambertus VanDyke, died at the home of his mother in the Fourth ward this morning from the effects of blood poisoning, His death came very unexpectedly as it was reported yesterday that he was improving.

Bert, as he was best known by all, had his knee badly cut by accidentally shoving his leg through a window in Andy Fall’s Washington St., stable two weeks ago. The cut was sewed up, but Bert did not realize that it was dangerous and caught cold in the wound. He remained in the barn until late last week when he was brought to his mother’s and except for a badly swollen limb seemed to be growing better. Last night occurred a change for the worse which culminated in his death this morning.

Bert was a good natured, large hearted, young man and had many friends, especially among the young men of this city, who will sincerely regret his untimely death. He was 80 years of age, a Grand Haven boy from birth and continued residence. At the time of his death he was manager of A. Falls’ livery barn. Deceased leaves a mother and the following brothers and sisters: Jacob Van Dyke of Allegan county, Mrs. Krasi of Blendon, Peter Van Dyke, Mrs. Sam Stuveling, Martin Van Dyke of this city. Notice of Funeral tomorrow.
