FAMILY
HISTORY CENTERS
in the State of Michigan
Microfilms of old church records and vital records from Poland can be borrowed for a small service fee through the Family History Library's Family History Centers. These are "branches" of the large library in Salt Lake City.
Research for Local Church Records from Poland:
Look in the computer for your ancestral village, order the films for the local church, wait for their arrival (2-4 weeks), make time to visit the center and go through your films. Most early Polish church registries were in Latin/Polish. Take small dictionaries for both languages with you when you go. Most churches have small handwritten indexes in the front or back of each Catholic Registry. (Webmasters Note: You will find few, if any, spelling errors in these Polish books. But, as you get closer to 1880-1890's, you will find many of these books written in Russian Cyrillic).
